Solar dehydrator, Okra Paradise Farms, 3 August 2012

The sun shines through the window into the lower box, heating air that rises through the upper box, dehydrating fruits and vegetables on the racks. That's the theory; we'll see if it works. Idea shamelessly stolen from Raven Waters; I figure it's his fault if it doesn't work. 🙂

Plop!

Sounds you don't want your smart phone to make: "Plop!" as it falls out of your pocket into the pond.

Now you might think it would be easy to find, since you can plainly see it fell straight down. Nope, I've rummaged through the bottom all around with fingers, then with a potato fork. Nothing. I blame it on the beavers, who I think are facebooking with it.

As a Georgia Master Gardener, Gretchen Quarterman volunteers two afternoons one afternoon a week at the Lowndes County Extension Office on US 84 east of Valdosta, identifying plants and pests, and making recommendations to citizens who call in or who bring in samples.

Relics: forty years later you can still read their labels

I remember when my father and I put these things there, around forty years ago. They’re still intact, and if you look closely you can still read the labels. We prefer taking things to the dump these days.
