100 foot dead tree

This tree was struck by lightning almost two years ago and then pine beetles got into it. It’s been dead for more than a year, and it was leaning towards the house, so we had to take it down.

Lightning striking a tree @ Okra Paradise Farms 3 August 2010

Gretchen went back inside after lightning struck a tree less than 100 feet from where she was taking this video two years ago. This is the tree we had to take down last week. Strike:

Walking along a drainage ditch with the dogs, Gretchen saw this interesting turtle:

We think it’s probably a slider turtle, Trachemys scripta, but it’s hard to be sure. We didn’t pick it up, because it appeared to be laying eggs.
