We were picking blackberries when this rainbow appeared.

River and Sky, the dark and pale dogs, are our two newest. They are both Carolina Dogs, a landrace breed.

Gretchen may have been annoyed that the cloud usually above her head had turned into a rainbow.

River escapes 2024-06-02

River got a little too ornery the other night, so I put her in the pen. By the time I was back in the house, she was outside the house door.

I tried again, making sure the pen door was latched. She did it again.

We guessed she either climbed over the six-foot fence, or stuck her nose under and lifted up the pen.

Arrow is making a speedy recovery.

She has ehrlichia, which is a tick-borne disease. Supposedly if you catch it in the acute stage, which it appears we did, antibiotics will cure it.

Your dogs don’t want ehrlichia, so check them for ticks.

Caught one possum 2023-09-07

There are more under the house.

Now to set the trap again.

And maybe the dogs can catch some.

The ones we trap, we take far enough away they won’t come back.

We can bring you some, if you like.

Fair warning: they eat insulation from electrical wires and cause shorts.

What kind of snake is this?

Probably not a moccasin, because it doesn’t have any stripes, and I’ve never seen one leave its tail sticking out like that. Usually a cottonmouth will face you and hiss.

The dogs found another snake earlier that probably was a moccasin, so we made them come along.

We also saw an anhinga on the surface. Usually we see them perched in a tree or flying. It did eventually fly off and perch.
